Second Annual Festival of Oak

wild mind festival of oak 2017

The Festival of Oak, our annual celebration of all things barrel aged, is right around the corner. Join us at the brewery on October 14 from 2pm to 8pm for an incredible event with some of our wildest beers yet.

We’re digging into our cellar and pulling out 16 unique barrel-aged beers to put on tap. SIXTEEN! Each one has been lying in wait in the barrel room, patiently developing a wide array of flavors and funk. The event is free to attend and exclusive Festival of Oak glassware will be available for purchase to gain access pours of these special, one-off beers. The Fabled Rooster will be doing an amazing pig roast to ensure you don’t leave hungry.

This year’s festival will feature our first two coolship bottle releases: Spontané and Bramble Spontané. These two bottle-conditioned, 100 percent spontaneously fermented wild ales are the result of a lot of hard work and even more patience.

Spontané is a year-old blend of  spontaneously fermented wild ale that was inoculated overnight in our custom-made coolship. We then refermented in the bottle, resulting in a complex, truly wild ale with notes of stone fruit, honey, and loads of barnyard funk.

Bramble Spontané, our second coolship bottle available at the event, was fermented on blackberries, cherries, and boysenberries and refermented in the bottle. The 100 percent spontaneously fermented wild ale has notes of dark currants and fresh berries with a strong base of barnyard funk. Bottles of our coolship beers are $18 for Spontané and $20 for Bramble Spontané; there’s a limit of 2 of each per person.

This year we’re also introducing a homebrewing competition, and you get to be the judge. Twenty local homebrewers used a sample of our native, wild yeast to create a beer of their choice. We’ve selected the top five to put on tap at the event, where you’ll be able to sample each for free and then vote for your favorite. The winning beer will be put on tap at a later date and all proceeds from that beer will go to a charity of the homebrewer’s choice.

Event attendees will have an opportunity to get a peek at the coolship with a special tour. Grab a pint and come see the coolship in action.

Over the next couple of weeks, our head brewer will be checking on some barrels to see which beers are primed and ready for the event. Keep your eye on our feeds for more information on what beers we’ll have on tap at the Festival of Oak. This will be your only chance to try these beers, and you won’t want to miss the chance to grab your bottles of Spontané. Trust us. It’s not to be missed.
